This day serves to honor the life and legacy of the civil rights leader and activist, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., who was assassinated in 1968. This year, New Yorkers will come together to celebrate the impact Dr. King had on the nation and the city of New York. Events will be held throughout the city in order to commemorate Dr. King’s commitment to justice and equality. From rallies to concerts to special events for children, there will be something for everyone to take part in to honor Dr. King’s legacy. As we come together to celebrate, we must remember the courage and dedication of Dr. King, and strive to continue to make progress toward a more just and equitable society.
